Expert Draws Attention to Families & Communities

When international expert on evaluating family services programs, Mark Friedman, hits Australian shores in October he’ll have his work cut out for him.
A director of The Fiscal Policy Studies Institute in the US, Friedman is an American policy strategist and practitioner, highly regarded for his results-based model of approaching and evaluating programs and services in human service delivery.
Family Services Australia has snared him as a keynote speaker at its annual- national conference in to be held this year in Darwin in October called Connecting Families and Communities. He will be holding workshops on establishing results and indicators of client well-being for children, families and communities and how to use the results to drive decision making and budgeting.
Family Services Australia’s (FSA) annual conferences cover a range of issues affecting family relationships and related support services. This year the conference is open to all practitioners, managers and researchers interested in family relationships and family support services.
During his 20-year period with the Maryland Department of Human Resources, Mark Friedman played a key role in social services including responsibility for financing one of the USA’s first family preservation programs.
Friedman has spoken extensively across the USA and internationally on the subject of results-based decision making, budgeting and accountability, and financing human services reform.
So while he’s down under its believed the Department of Family and Community Services is also taking advantage of him being here.
They are organising for him to run workshops for the department’s own staff!
