Fundraising Principles & Techniques - Advertorial
15 September 2003 at 1:09 pm
Australian fundraisers have the opportunity to take part in the internationally recognised Principles & Techniques of Fundraising course, direct from Indiana University.
The course is being offered through the Asia-Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment who regard the course as a world leader in the fundraising area.
Pro Bono Australia readers are being offered a very special rate to take part in the week-long experience in Sydney or Melbourne next month.
The Fund Raising School at Indiana University has been teaching the Principles & Techniques course for twenty-nine years. The intensive five-day Australian course will be delivered by faculty members from the University’s Center on Philanthropy.
Course Leader is Dr Lilya Wagner CFRE, Associate Director of the Fund Raising School and author of ‘Careers in Fundraising’. In 2002 Dr Wagner won the Research Prize from the US Association of Fundraising Professionals. The prize recognises the author of a book that contributes substantially to the knowledge and understanding of fundraising or philanthropic behaviour.
The Principles & Techniques course is designed for both new and experienced professionals, volunteers and staff.
The Asia-Pacific Centre says that newcomers will learn the ‘must-know’ strategies and tools of fundraising. More experienced fundraisers will be exposed to creative ways of handling common problems, refining management skills and reinvigorating enthusiasm.
Participants will learn:
– How to identify and validate prospective donors and build an annual fund donor base
– How to manage the fundraising process
– How to use research to match donors’ interests and needs with organisations’ missions and goals
– How to cultivate and solicit major gifts
– A total management approach to raising money
– How planned giving benefits donors and organisations
– The psychology of successful solicitation
– How to respond to challenges and ethical dilemmas.
Course participants will also receive a comprehensive 700-page study guide. The Asia-Pacific Centre says the course offers participants the chance to network and build long-lasting, cross-mentoring relationships with other professionals.
The course will be held:
– in Sydney at Sydney Central, 477 Pitt St, from 20-24 October 2003
– in Melbourne at the Swinburne Hawthorn Campus, Swinburne from 27-31 October 2003
There is an Earlybird rate of $1,995 for registration before 26 September (Sydney) or 3 October (Melbourne); however the Asia-Pacific Centre has offered Pro Bono Australia readers an additional 10% discount.
