Accommodating The Homeless!

Here are some eye-opening statistics – in Australia 7,500 homeless people are found a bed each day but 315 adults and 200 kids are still turned away!

That’s the latest figures released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

The homeless are accommodated under the Commonwealth-State government’s Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) in a program that also helps women and children escaping domestic violence.

There are 1,286 SAAP agencies.

Of the 95,000 people given assistance in 2001-02, 51,000 had accompanying children.

Couples and people with children are more likely to be turned away than people on their own.
