Organising A Charity Auction - Best Practice
13 September 2004 at 1:09 pm

Many Not for Profits are in major event-fundraising mode at this time of year and it’s usually the work around the charity auction on the big night that causes the most headaches. But help is at hand!

A US company called Auctionpay, which supplies electronic payment processing systems has produced a Best Practices Guide for Benefit Auctions.

Auctionpay says it’s dedicated to making auctions a better experience for guests, staff and volunteers! It has produced a set of planning guidelines based on what the company says it has seen has seen work well after participating in more than 1,500 auctions.

The guide covers general auction issues and specifics on registration, data entry, checkout/cashiering and item pick-up.

Each event is unique; and, how you manage your event will vary based on factors such as the number of guests, volunteers, location and use of event management software.

Jeff Jetton the CEO of Auctionpay says his own experience as an auction attendee inspired him to develop the pay machines.

He says he knew there must be a way to alleviate check-in confusion and long item pick-up lines that put an end to most evenings long before the event was actually over.

As well he says that as a Not for Profit board member, all he could think of was lost revenue potential and frustrated guests and donors.

If this is ringing bells for your organisation then the Best Practice Guide is worth a look…regardless of what type of EFTPOS machine you are using to collect the funds on the night.
