West Australian Community Foundation Expands
24 January 2005 at 12:01 pm

The newly established West Australian Community Foundation (WACF) has been appointed Community Development Coordinator with the financial support of one of its corner stone partners, the WA Rio Tinto Future Fund.

In this role Trevor Chapman will work with West Australian communities and organisations that are interested in creating future funding opportunities. This will involve helping communities attract, build and manage local funds to meet emerging needs now and into the future.

This will also involve a state-wide education campaign about the value of a community ‘saving for a rainy day’ which is one of the key roles of community foundations world wide.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Trevor Chapman has 15 years experience in business and community development before moving to Perth and starting up his own consultancy.

Trevor consulted for 12 years, servicing a wide range of clients, including the Western Australian Local Government Association, several Western Australian councils and the Chamber of Minerals of Energy.

WACF CEO Kathryn Sydney-Smith says that having extensive experience in community and economic development, Trevor has a strong understanding of the unique challenges facing rural and remote communities.

Most recently, he worked as Executive Officer with the Country Medical Foundation, a charitable trust that offers scholarships to rural-based students wishing to pursue a career in medicine or nursing.

Western Australia launched its first statewide community foundation in June 2004 with the aim of making it easier for business to engage with community.

Areas such as health, research, social services, the arts, economic development and the environment are to benefit from funding generated through the Foundation.
