PM's Partnership Awards Under Review

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships Awards are currently being reviewed to ensure they continue to recognise leadership in these areas.
The annual awards through the PM’s Community Business Partnership Initiative (PMCBP) reward and recognise those businesses and community organisations which come together to generate outcomes that have a long term benefit for the community.
The PMCBP says it’s important that the Awards maintain their relevance to the business and community sectors by reflecting their needs and priorities, and by show-casing CSR best practice.
When the Awards were first introduced in 1999 the concept of community business partnerships was relatively new in Australia and the Awards initiative was welcomed as an innovative way to encourage a socially responsible approach by business.
Over the past 6 years significant developments have occurred.
The PMCBP says the private sector approach to managing the social and environmental impacts of business and investing in communities has advanced significantly in both philosophy and practice and an approach based on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become more widely understood and accepted.
In addition, it says a number of new measures have been introduced to enhance the Awards program, including a new media award category in 2002, and, in 2003, the introduction of judges’ encouragement awards and the adoption of an awards logo.
The PMCBP is looking for members of the community and business sectors who wish to comment on any aspect of the Awards, from the Awards’ focus and relevance to administrative issues to take part in an On Line survey.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, depending on the level of detail you wish to provide. All comments are confidential and cannot be attributed to a particular person.

The National Presentation of the 2004 Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships was due to be held in Brisbane on 15 September. As a Federal Election was held on Saturday 9 October this meant that 15 September fell during the election campaign. Because of the difficulties associated with staging the event during the campaign, it did not proceed.
The PMCBP says that following the election every effort was made to reschedule the event in 2004 however this did not prove possible.
It is likely that the National Presentation of the 2004 Awards will take place in February 2005. The 2005 Awards would be launched at the same time.
Feedback to all participants and the distribution of Participation Certificates and Awards Booklets will take place after the National Presentation is held.
