Greatconnections Launches in Victoria

The State Drawing Room at Government House in Victoria was the launching pad for Lynne Landy, wife of the Governor of Victoria to unveil Greatconnections, a new philanthropic organisation that links experienced retired professionals with Not for Profit Organisations.

Mrs. Landy says that with many people retiring early, there’s a wealth of talent in the community that can be employed on a voluntary basis for charity organisations that have limited budgets.

And she says as the tasks are short-term, volunteers can still enjoy travel, sport and their grandchildren. But their valuable input can make a huge difference to a small Not for Profit Organisation.

Each month a list of tasks (referred to as wishes) requested by NFPs will be posted on the Greatconnections website. Volunteers will be notified of the new wishes by email and they can then contact the relevant organisation direct.

Mrs. Landy says the program is starting slowly in Metropolitan Melbourne the plan is to take the idea to regional Victoria once it’s up and running.

Many people would enjoy a few days in say Beechworth or Bendigo, being tourists, but also volunteering their expertise in the bush.

Tasks range from being a mentor to a CEO, redesigning office space, creating a new business plan, advising on staff problems and giving legal advice.

For more details on how you or your organisation can become involved in Greatconnections, visit www.greatconnection.com.au or contact Sue Green, who runs the Secretariat, on 0400 117 845.
