Online Survey Results

Online giving is on the rise in Australia according to our Pro Bono Australia readers who took part in our recent survey.
Some 66% of readers say that online giving to their cause has increased in the last five years and as many as 28% say that figure has gone up more than 50% in that time.
However most charities (77%) say online giving still only represents up to 5% of overall fundraising. Only 11% say online giving represents between 20-50% of their total fundraising.
Also, some 82% of organisations now communicate with donors or potential donors via email.
Our survey participants also offered some interesting comments about emails and online giving.
One charity observed that the changing email addresses of donors makes it difficult to keep information current. Another suggests that online giving will probably increase as the older generation that doesn’t use the Internet "dies off".
Another says the level of skill in NFPs for developing content appropriate to the medium is not very good. Nor is the content appropriate for the bulk of online consumers: GenY, GenX and beyond. This maybe one of the major stumbling blocks around its take-up as a fundraising activity.
