When you see the Salvos band playing on a city corner or delivering food and blankets for the needy this Christmas wonder for a moment about how they get around – it’s thanks to the efforts of a corporate helping drive the Salvos work.

In Melbourne, FleetPartners is providing a delivery van, a passenger sedan and a 12 seater passenger bus for the Salvation Army’s ongoing use.

The Salvation Army estimates that during the 8 weeks leading up to Christmas, over 300,000 Australians will seek their help.

The Salvation Army works tirelessly over this period, giving food, hot drinks and blankets to those in need and provide valuable support services such as counselling and housing assistance.

Salvation Army spokesperson, Major Brendan Nottle said that helping those is need is critical during the holiday season.

Major Nottle says many Australians lack basic necessities such as food and a place to sleep. With extra demand on resources during the holiday period we rely heavily on the support of the community to help those in need.

He says the extra vehicles will help move people into housing and transport food to The Salvation Army drop-in centres.

The vehicles will also be used to transport and prepare food for a Christmas day lunch as well as being used at night time to give out hot drinks and blankets to people sleeping on the streets.

Major Nottle says that corporate partnerships such as the one with FleetPartners provides valuable support to the organisation.

The provision of the FleetPartners vehicles saves The Salvation Army a considerable amount of money and provides them with resources that they may otherwise not be able to have.

FleetPartners says it is committed to corporate social responsibility.

Spokesperson Alex Mihalovich, Head of Marketing says that the provision of the vehicles reinforced the long-standing relationship between the two organisations.
