National Australia Bank has made it possible for the bank’s employees to provide their business skills to Not for Profit organisations through an innovative online exchange system.

Called volunteerXchange, it’s an internet system that enables the exchange of skills-based intellectual tasks between community groups and NAB employees.

VolunteerXchange founder and CEO, Robert DePinto says the service is free of charge for charities who have access, entirely on a voluntary basis, to the professional services of thousands of NAB employees.

DePinto says every NAB employee is entitled to two days’ paid volunteer leave annually and virtual volunteering has added a new dimension to NAB’s volunteering program.

In addition to manual tasks such as working bees and event assistance, employees can now volunteer their business skills via the volunteerXchange system.

He says for example, an organisation may need some assistance managing their accounts. They’ve identified a specific task; say to set up a new set of accounts for an independent grant-funded project.

Rather than take funds from their much needed grant to pay an accountant’s consulting fees, they could post the job of setting up the accounting system into the volunteerXchange job system.

A NAB professional with accounting qualifications could accept the task, perform the job within a few hours, and account for the time spent against his or her volunteer leave entitlements.

DePinto says the community organisation gets a professional job at absolutely no cost, and the NAB volunteer provides a volunteer service in the community and credits the time against leave entitlements.

He says there are hundreds professionals with many different skills registered in the NAB volunteerXchange. These include marketing, human resource, management, system analysts, IT, accounting, legal and customer service professionals.

A community organisation can access the same leading skills that the bank employs every day to solve business problems.

He says Not for Profits can even organise brainstorming sessions from a diverse set of professionals to generate ideas to solve business problems.
