Future Summit Identifies "Big Ideas"

Renewable energy, population growth and new approaches to Infrastructure have been identified as big ideas for Australia’s future.

More than 450 delegates have discussed and debated their big ideas for Australia’s future at the Australian Davos Connection’s (ADC) fifth annual Future Summit in Sydney this month.

During the Future Summit’s final session, delegates presented the big ideas to emerge from streams focusing on the economy, environment, government, education, health, infrastructure, region and society.

Summit delegates called on Australia to become dependent on renewable energy in the next thirty years.

They also identified a need for Australia to play a key role in accommodating the accelerating global population and to change its approach to infrastructure challenges.

ADC Chairman, Michael Roux, says the big ideas produced are a recognition of the
enormous challenges facing Australia and the rest of the world which must be addressed urgently.

Roux says current approaches to climate change, the environment, food prices, skills shortages, infrastructure, health, and education are not working.

He says Australia needs these big ideas to help shift direction in these areas immediately because they can no longer go on as they are.

Roux says the big ideas from Future Summit will be circulated to state and federal governments and around the world through the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The Future Summit’s big ideas will also help set the agenda at this year’s ADC Australian Leadership Retreat at Hayman Island in August.
