In Search of Australia's Best Community Treasurers
17 July 2008 at 11:39 am

Westpac Bank, together with the Federal Treasurer, Wayne Swan, has launched a campaign recognising the unsung work of community treasurers across Australia.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of community groups and organisations in
Australia, rely on the unpaid labour of honorary treasurers.

Responsible for the financial well being of their organisation, community treasurers often go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that community groups continue to meet their basic financial obligations.

To recognise their efforts, Westpac’s CEO Gail Kelly and Wayne Swan launched
the Westpac Community Treasurers’ Awards which are searching for Australia’s three most outstanding community treasurers.

Organisations can nominate their community group’s treasurer by answering the questions on the entry form, briefly explaining how they stand out in the areas of good financial management, good financial governance and good financial outcomes.

Awards will be given for treasurers in three budget classes:

Small organisations
For organisations with an annual income of less than $10,000 per annum.

Medium organisations
For organisations with an annual income of between $10,000 and $250,000 per
annum.

Large organisations
For organisations with an annual income of more than $250,000 per annum.

Entries will be judged on how well the treasurer fulfils the duties of ensuring good financial management, good financial governance and good financial outcomes.

The winner in each class will win $5000 for their organisation and a trophy to
recognise their achievements.

Thirty random entrants in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and New South
Wales will receive a free place in one of Westpac’s popular Beyond Survival
financial seminars. These will be held in September.

All entries submitted online or by post must be received by Our Community by 5pm
on 10 September 2008.
