Clare Martin Coup for ACOSS
20 October 2008 at 5:24 pm
The Australian Council of Social Service ACOSS has appointed the former Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Clare Martin as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Martin resigned from the top job late last year after more than 6 years.
At the time of her resignation Martin admit that the Howard Government’s Intervention plan had been tough on her personally.
A former journalist, she was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in 1995. She was appointed Opposition Leader in 1999, and became the first female Chief Minister of the Northern Territory after the 2001 territory election. Clare led the ALP to a record win at the 2005 election, before resigning as Chief Minister at the end of last year.
ACOSS says it is delighted to have a driven, motivated and highly skilled person to lead ACOSS into the future to achieve its vision of a fair, inclusive and sustainable Australia.
Clare will be commencing her role in late October.
