The Fundraising Institute of Australia’s new CEO, Chris McMillan takes up her role from March 24th, 2009 at a critical time in the Not for Profit sector.
McMillan moves into the FIA post having been the CEO of Variety, The Children’s Charity (NSW) since July 2006 and comes with an extensive CV. She takes over from Dr. Sue-Anne Wallace who was in the role for almost 5 years.
McMillan began her career within the health care sector, specialising in neo-natal and paediatric intensive care nursing, and has worked across many other industry areas including: information technology; human resources and management consulting; Not for Profit member organisations and most recently within the finance sector.
McMillan says while she has worked in the charity sector for some time she has also worked with member based organisations and peak bodies.
She has extensive senior management experience having held General Manager positions at the Financial Planning Association (FPA), Securities Institute of Australia, Australian Business Limited and the Australian Institute of Management (AIM).
She says the FIA has great potential to grow in the area of professional development and also a need for the fundraising profession to be recognised in the public eye.
Like the consumer group Choice, McMillan believes that public can come to recognise the FIA as assisting the public in picking reputable charities to support.
She says all the base work has been done and she hopes to build on it.
On the flip side she says there is a reality check given the economic climate and she wants to make sure the services for members are premium and that there is great value in being a member.
Dr. Sue-Anne Wallace is taking on the role as Managing Director with Global Philanthropy.
