About the role

As a result of additional funding, two exciting, full time opportunities exist for suitably experienced and qualified individuals to take on a case manager role with this initiative in Inner East Melbourne.

This role will be responsible for providing individually tailored support to disengaged learners within the context of their families, whilst developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across a range of sectors.

The Navigator Inner East team is based in Brunswick and Kew with some flexibility to hot-desk from partner agencies across northern metropolitan Melbourne.

Salary range of $82,043 – $86,351 per annum plus salary packaging benefit, is offered together with ongoing professional and career development as well as opportunities for personal growth.

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • An understanding of adolescent development and the factors that can contribute to a young person’s disengagement from learning.
  • Knowledge and experience in appropriate interventions/skills required to support children, young people and families from vulnerable, culturally diverse and marginalised communities and a clear understanding of case management, intensive support, crisis intervention and assertive outreach.
  • Capacity to work with a high degree of cultural competency and understanding of culturally appropriate service delivery in relation to Aboriginal young people, their families and communities, and in relation to CALD young people, their families and communities.
  • Experience working with families and ability to use a range of strategies around family issues such as family violence, family breakdown and school withdrawal.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to liaise with a range of stakeholders both government and non-government.
  • Capacity to fulfil reporting and administrative requirements associated with the position.
  • Understanding and sympathy with the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Valid Working with Children Check card.
  • Successfully completed Police Check. Police Check will be conducted prior to commencement by Jesuit Social Services.

Desirable

  • Experience in, and/or knowledge of legislative frameworks in relation to working with children.
  • Experience in, and/or knowledge of restorative practices.

Navigator is a program funded by state government which aims to support disengaged learners aged 12 to 17 years old to re-engage with an education or training pathway. Jesuit Social Services is delivering Navigator in the Inner Eastern Melbourne area in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency and will be working closely with local schools and services and the regional Department of Education and Training office.
