Left unaddressed, the medical, psychological, physical and social consequences can be long term and for many life threatening.
Butterfly advocates for improved services from both government and independent sources whilst raising public awareness in the media and via community debate. They operate the Butterfly National Helpline, run a range of innovative clinical treatment and support programs, deliver prevention initiatives in schools and the community, and have recently committed to the development of Australia’s first intensive virtual outpatient program.

The Role
Reporting to the Butterfly Head of Clinical & Support Services and working closely with the Helpline Manager and Recovery Support Services Manager, you will develop and implement Australia’s first virtual community-based intensive outpatient program (v-IOP) specifically for the treatment of eating disorders, as part of a stepped system of care.
You’ll manage the human, administrative and financial resources of the v-IOP together with contractual reporting and continuous review of policies and procedures. Importantly, you will lead the development of the model of care, including:
- Establishment of an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) to provide oversight and direction
- Aligning program governance with National Safety & Quality Digital Mental Health Standards
- Developing a staffing model with a clear scope of practice for all staff
- Ensuring collaboration across Butterfly’s clinical services
Skills Required
You are a mental health clinician with advanced knowledge of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body dysmorphia, as well as co-morbid mental health conditions. You have significant experience writing and delivering eating disorder or relevant programs and have an understanding of the eating disorders system of care within Australia.
A proven ability in the management and implementation of project plans, policies, procedures and programs is essential, as is a postgraduate qualification in psychology, social work, dietetics or other relevant discipline (including nursing) and registration with a relevant professional body. Ideally you also bring solid experience in the treatment of or service delivery to clients with complex mental health problems.
