    Well written Maggie, although I am increasingly concerned about inaccurate and/or ambiguous reporting in myriad articles, publications, etc, related to homelessness.
    Of the 49,000 homeless females you mention, for example, only a tiny fraction are actually sleeping in improvised dwellings (tents, etc) or sleeping rough. Such circumstances are almost exclusively related to homeless males. The vast majority of homeless females are living in supported accomodation, boarding houses, couch surfing, etc, and have little need for an additional pillow. Thus, slow growth of the referenced business, as desired by the owners, is all but guaranteed.
    Moreover, in terms of access to homelessness services, the demographic “most likely” to seek assistance is highly variable, depending on the type of service in question. There is no doubt, however, that the majority of homeless people are adult males, not 24-34 year old mothers.
    It is important not to conflate or misrepresent, inadvertently or otherwise, stubborn social issues like homelessness as we risk misdirecting scarce resources and, inevitably, detract from the obvious goal – ending homelessness for all.
