Campbell Page Set to Transform Views on Disability in the Community

The Campbell Page team hopes to make a positive change in the Australian workforce this year by strengthening partnerships with local community and employers by championing disability and inclusion.

The not-for-profit organisation plans to tackle one community at a time with a series of events, expos and workshops aimed at building stronger ties with allied health professionals, community service groups, business owners and employers.

“We believe that absolutely everyone has the potential to be a meaningful contributor in the workplace and, through employment, be included in all aspects of the community,” said Cassandra Warin, Campbell Page’s national disability employment partnership manager.

By partnering with communities across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland, the team aim to challenge commonly held misconceptions about disability, so that individuals are viewed in light of their “abilities” rather than their “disability”.

Campbell Page also plans to expand on its community partnerships, helping Disability Employment Services customers to link in with additional local support including health care, family support, counselling, mentoring programs, financial education and other care services.

Kylie Davies-Culloden, a partnership manager for the organisation, takes a holistic approach, stating: “Our main goal this year is to ensure our hubs act as an anchor for the community… helping our customers not only to find work but also to receive access to the support they may need in other areas of their life.”

A series of events in Victoria have already taken off with a networking brunch for employers from the Peninsula region held last month, a Community Expo also held in March and a Career Expo taking place this April.

Campbell Page have also established a “bronze level” membership with the Australian Network on Disability (AND) and is working with the beyondblue Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance, to support employers and the wider community with access to resources and programs to sustain inclusive and diverse workplaces.

Registrations are still open for the Community Career Expo held next week with details accessible here.

Campbell Page is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to transforming people’s lives by securing long-term employment for the most disadvantaged. Their reach extends from community, youth, Indigenous and family programs through to education, employment and disability employment services.

Disability Employment Services (DES) is an Australian Government Initiative which helps people with disability find work and keep a job.
