About the organisation
Birrahlee Preschool Lane Cove has been providing preschool education to the Lane Cove community since 1958. As a community-based not-for-profit organisation, we aim to provide valuable initial experiences and guidance to preschool children aged 3–5 in a safe, friendly and happy environment.
Our focus is on the development of each child. We provide a high quality programme that is tailored to each child’s strengths, interests, and unique qualities. Our service is run by experienced, qualified, caring and consistent staff members who are committed to driving our purpose in being the most nurturing environment where everyone embraces learning and inclusion.
About the role
The role
As the Director of Birrahlee Preschool, you will report into our Board of Directors and be responsible for the overall operation and management of the service including children, families, educational programs, staff management and all other aspects of administration and financials of the service.
Your role will model excellent leadership to bring out the best in your team, build their capacity and support them in making the service a safe and engaging educational environment for the children and their families. This will be undertaken with respect to our purpose and goals in keeping with our philosophy.
Key areas of responsibility for this role include:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the service relating to children, parents, programs, management of staff, compliance and administration
- Develop and manage the financial strategy, annual budgets and all other relevant financial aspects of the service in conjunction with the Bursar and Board
- Remaining abreast and advising the Board on critical business updates/ changes and supporting in the key decision making process
- Support in the planning and implementation of effective and ongoing educational programs for children in accordance with the National Quality Framework and EYLF
- Proactively engage and connect with the Birrahlee community and build strong relationships with children, families and the wider LGA to encourage enrolments
- Leadership and guidance to all staff and assist and promote staff growth and development within the service
- Providing a healthy, safe and welcoming environment to all children, families and staff members
About you
This position would best suit an experienced Director within the early childhood education sector who has community/ not for profit experience and is looking for a new challenge. You will hold a minimum qualification of Bachelor in Early Childhood (or equivalent as recognised by the ACECQA), and are willing to adhere to and drive Birrahlee’s vision to be the preschool of choice for our community.
In addition, to be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven direct experience in driving a service that follows best practice protocol
- A passion for the growth and development of children and a commitment to inclusion
- Demonstrated excellence in communicating with families, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and building networks within the Lane Cove community
- Proven leadership capabilities and an ability to support and manage the performance of an experienced and professional team
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and make appropriate executive decisions with the best interests of Birrahlee front of mind
- A strong understanding of Children’s Education and Care Services Law and Regulations relating to operating a service
- All certificates / checks / qualifications relevant to NESA Accreditation, First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis, WWCC and child protection.
